White porcelain veneers are bonded to the front of a patient’s tooth, concealing surface imperfections in the tooth enamel. They are made individually for each patient to match the size and shape of a tooth.

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail. Veneers make teeth look natural and healthy, and because they are very thin and are held in place by a special strong bond (rather like super-glue) very little preparation of the tooth is needed.

Porcelain veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of teeth.

A precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to give the right colour to improve a single discoloured or stained tooth or to lighten front teeth (usually the upper ones) generally.

Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable.

If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.

We use the Zoom tooth whitening system (Zoom 2) to reduce the discolouration of teeth, making your smile whiter and brighter. This system uses a newly developed gel, which breaks down on exposure to a particular type of light. As the gel breaks down, it penetrates your tooth enamel, reducing discolouration. The effect of this particular whitening treatment can last many years with proper care.

INLAYS AND ONLAYS
Inlays or onlays refer to indirect fillings which are made of a variety of materials including porcelain, gold, and tooth-coloured composite resin porcelain that fit into or onto the affected tooth. Its purpose is to make the tooth stronger by holding it together while retaining a natural, esthetically pleasing colour. They are used in instances when there is deficient tooth structure to support a filling but the tooth is still in a condition that does not require a crown. The advantage that porcelain inlays or onlays have over gold inlays or onlays is its aesthetic value.

A filling replaces part of a tooth that has been lost because of decay or accidental damage. White fillings are now becoming a more popular alternative to amalgam (silver and mercury) fillings. They are tooth coloured and are made of composite resin. They are bonded directly to your teeth and look more natural than their metal counterparts. In most cases it is quite impossible to see that the teeth actually have fillings.
